I recently watched a video clip of President Hassan Sheikh discussing Somalia’s move toward a one-man, one-vote electoral system. While this is a hopeful step, I believe it’s crucial to address some realities we’re facing on the ground.
Firstly, the one-person, one-vote system is likely to be implemented mainly in Mogadishu and might not reach other regions due to ongoing security challenges. Our country still faces significant threats from groups that cause instability and hardship for ordinary Somalis.
Moreover, unity across the regions remains a challenge. The hope for a fully unified Somalia cannot be realized without addressing these security issues and fostering genuine reconciliation among different communities.
Additionally, it’s important to emphasize that we need leadership that not only focuses on democratic reforms but also prioritizes security, national unity, and the protection of all Somali citizens. We want to see a president who can effectively secure our borders and who is steadfast in protecting the country’s sovereignty and interests.
Moreover, we want our young generation to be inspired, united, and empowered. They are the future, and they deserve a country that’s safe, stable, and prosperous.
In conclusion, while I appreciate the president’s vision, I believe we need to address these foundational issues before we can fully embrace such reforms.
Thank you for sharing this important discussion, and I hope we can continue to engage in meaningful dialogue for the betterment of Somalia.
Proud Somali 🙏🏽
