![What’s the wildest road you’ve ever taken? The Transfăgărășan doesn’t merely connect Curtea de Argeș to Sibiu, it cleaves the spine of the Carpathians with a kind of reckless grace, dragging you from monasteries wrapped in incense to ridgelines where the air tastes of stone and thunder. It is not polite, it does not flatter—it hurls you upward into a landscape that feels conjured by fevered dreams. One moment you’re flanked by forests so dark they feel eternal, the next you’re staring down a gorge that threatens to swallow you whole. At its heart lies Bâlea Lake, crystalline and merciless, surrounded by peaks that seem to sneer at your presence. Shepherds still move their flocks across these slopes, threads of human persistence stitched against the vastness. Waterfalls crash in untamed cascades, tunnels burrow into the mountains as though mankind tried, for a brief moment, to tame the untamable.
