HIGHWAY 100 SHOOTING SUSPECT'S BAIL RAISED TO $1 MILLION. SHELL CASINGS ALLEGEDLY LINK THE GUN TO SHOOTINGS IN BURNSVILLE, ANOKA COUNTY, AND MINNEAPOLIS, AND THE BURNSVILLE TARGET WAS THE SAME MAN SHOT ON HIGHWAY 100. St. Louis Park, Minnesota Offense Date: September 30, 2026 Booking Date: October 13, 2026 On September 30, two friends had dinner at a restaurant off Central Avenue in Columbia Heights before heading to Minnetonka to play sports. According to the criminal complaint, they had no idea they were being watched. A black Honda Pilot had been parked in the lot since at least 4:30 p.m. The friends pulled in around 5:15 in a white Honda Accord. Its driver never got out, but surveillance video shows people climbing in and out of its rear door. At 5:36 p.m., the Accord left onto Central Avenue and the Pilot left through another exit. A minute later, the Sonata followed the Accord out. The Accord's driver told police he believed they were being followed. He was right. Video allegedly tracked the Sonata to southbound Highway 100, where it stayed a few cars back for miles. After the Highway 7 exit, it sped up, pulled alongside the Accord, and opened fire. One bullet hit the driver in the left ankle. He veered onto the shoulder past the Excelsior Boulevard bridge. The Sonata exited at Vernon Avenue South. Officers counted what appeared to be six bullet strikes on the Accord. The passenger was not hurt. Casings from two calibers, .45 and 9 mm, were found on the highway. According to the complaint, the Sonata is registered to 19-year-old Abdisalan Muhumed Ali. Phone data allegedly places him near the restaurant and the shooting scene, and the complaint states he is associated with the "1300" gang. Then the ballistics came back. Through NIBIN, a national database that links casings to the guns that fired them, the .45 casings allegedly match: • A Sept. 5 Anoka County shooting where three people were shot • A July 19 Minneapolis shooting where a vehicle and two homes were hit and 68 casings were recovered • A Feb. 13 shooting in Burnsville The target of that Burnsville shooting, according to the complaint, was the same man driving the Accord on Highway 100. The 9 mm casings allegedly match a Glock police found with a known associate of Ali's in June. It was returned to him after he showed his permit to carry. Phone records show Ali contacted him 26 times between Sept. 5 and Oct. 4. Ali is charged with drive-by shooting toward an occupied motor vehicle or building and second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon. Both carry a mandatory minimum of three years in prison because a firearm was allegedly used. A judge first signed an Order of Detention (meaning he stays in jail while the case moves forward) with bail at $250,000. At his first appearance on October 15, Judge Mark Kappelhoff raised bail to $1 million without conditions, or $900,000 with conditions. Those include no firearms, no contact with the victims, electronic monitoring, and random testing. A public defender was appointed. His next court date is an omnibus hearing (a pretrial hearing on the evidence) on November 12 at 11:15 a.m. ⚖️ All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
