Back in the 90s I used to explore the grounds. Some porches were open and I could peak inside the windows. I knew some people that would break in and explore the tunnels. 😬

Our guide was a lady who’s father worked at the facility and she had awesome insights into everything speaking from memory and just not a general script.

Have been there once during early summer 2021. The grounds are so beautiful during that time. Birds and blooms. We visited the retail shops and found some cool stuff. Had a little pastry and will be back again some day!

Went there on a field trip in my senior year (1967) when it was still a hospital. We had to stand against a wall while patients walked by. Was an eye opening experience !

my grandparents both worked there when the state hospital is open and we're later married on the grounds. So many years later I live for a while in one of the condos. It's a special place.🥰

Go to the little book store down stairs and buy How Thin The Veil by Jack Kerkhoff. He checked himself in there for a time. Talks about his daily life while there. such a good read
