@nikki.mov: Let’s remember, preserve and celebrate the southern tea cake! #americanhistory #BlackHistory #tiktokfood #BakeWithMe INGREDIENTS 1 1/4 cup all purpose flour 1/4 tsp baking soda 1/4 tsp salt 1 stick butter (softened) 3/4 cup sugar 1 egg 2 tsp pure vanilla extract Nutmeg to taste (I just sprinkled until I was bored lol) INSTRUCTIONS 1. Add the flour, salt and baking soda to a bowl and mix thoroughly 2. In a separate bowl (or in your stand mixer if you have one) add the softened butter and sugar. Mix vigorously by hand or set your stand mixer to around 8 or 9. Mix until it’s well combined and smooth. 3. Beat in the egg. 4. Beat in the nutmeg. 5. Beat in the vanilla. Make sure it’s all thoroughly combined. 6. Gradually add the flour mixture to your wet mixture and combine. I set my stand mixer to around 3 for this step. 7. Once the dough is completely mixed and smooth, remove it from the bowl, put it in a container or plastic bag that can be tightly closed. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours so the dough gets firm. 8. Preheat your oven to 325. 9. Using a cookie scoop, scoop out the dough and roll it into little smooth balls. 10. Press your finger into each dough ball. 11. Bake for 10 minutes or until dough is set. 12. Serve and enjoy!
