I've been a Spanish speaker all of my life and for me it's all about the confidence. Regularly speaking the language builds the confidence which allows for better word flow. If it's been a while then I lose confidence and it's harder to find the words.

I think it’s probably the most frustrating part of learning language. It’s like fitness, it disappears very quietly, if you don’t do it regularly. Then you go to use it and it’s much harder than it should be!!

Living in the UK with a degree in 3 foreign languages, I can definitely relate as I can’t always be speaking all 3 plus, English frequently. I think it’s partly a confidence thing because the more you use it the easier it gets. I always feel more nervous speaking a language after a period of rarely using it

I live in Spain and I mostly speak spanish but the moment someone speaks to me in English or in Georgian(my native language) my brain is a mess 🫠

I hate it when I have to switch between the two. The first week in Spain I am constantly translating everything I hear and see into English. It calms down after a bit. But when back home, I’m watching Eastenders and translating it in my head into Spanish. Our brains work so bizarrely. Yet my friends’ kids who are natively bilingual (if that’s a thing) they code switch and change mid sentence and that blows my mind. I was ask the once was the word ‘such’ meant. And I didn’t have a clue. haha. But yeah. You use it or lose it.
