“Please don’t hear something I am not saying” love that the whole internet needs to hear that honestly

This is how my mom raised me!! She wanted to go to lunch with her friends, but didn’t have childcare? She threw me in the stroller with a coloring book and a peanut butter sandwich and I would go right along with her. And honestly, being around that many adults as a kid helped with my communication, my patience, my awareness of others around me — it gave me so much!

I read “hunt, gather, parent” which in part, teaches this idea. Highly recommend!

This is how my mom was and TRUST me it was the best thing she ever did for us❤ I see people who had moms who revolved their life around them and now as adults the moms are still trying to do this and it ruins their relationship with their adult children 😮💨

This is why I’m done at 2 kids. They are 6 and almost 2 and I’m ready to put myself toward the top of my priority list. I want to get back into my crafting and doing things I used to love to do. I’ve completely lost myself since becoming a mom.

I often save chores and errands for when they’re with me so they see the things that need to be done

Funny how you have to point that out cause people suck and will only hear what they want to hear. I am so here for it and for you! I feel the same.

My mom has always maintained her identity after becoming a mom. She coached gymnastics, volunteered (with us in tow usually), maintained friendships, etc etc etc. She's a prime example that you don't have to completely lose yourself in motherhood!! It added to her life and definitely changed it, but didn't take away from it.

This is what I personally do as a mom. I take her out every day and some days it’s errands other days it’s the park but i make it a point to just do life and bring her with. Our decisions are based on what makes sense for the family unit not just one person and we love it!!

I was 18 months into motherhood with 2 kids when I finally figured this out. This mindset allowed me to go from feeling like a babysitter to feeling like a parent.

i’ve seen first hand kids grow up with this kind of parenting… now knowing them as adults… they are honestly the BEST, most grounded, most independent humans who love and respect their parents so much.

I really don’t think if your children don’t view you (once they hit a certain age) as more than just a parent, it makes it that much harder for them to grow up. I want my son to know me as more than just a mom. I want him to know the things I enjoy, how I value my friendships, how I value his father, my dreams and my goals etc. I want him to have the same thing!

I couldn’t agree more but can I also piggy back and say the same goes towards your relationship with your significant other. I am at the age where most of our friendships have children who have just graduated high school. And in 1 year I have counted 9 relationships in our children’s friends group that have filed for divorce. I spoke with a few of them and it was almost copy paste “we focused so long on the kids that we never nourished our marriage/relationship”. I love my kids with my entire soul but I also love myself and my husband just as much!

I did this from day one. Now my kids favorite place is Publix and she requests it daily because the free Cookie. 2nd favorite place is my gym. If we don’t do burpees she will create a routine at home for us with 5 burpees in it every time. You’ve been warned.
