The verse is not saying that Jews or Christians can be saved while remaining in their religions. You cannot believe in Allah and the Last Day and still remain in Judaism or Christianity after the final revelation. The verse is simply saying that people from Jewish or Christian backgrounds will be rewarded if they truly believe and that belief necessarily leads to accepting Islam. It is about conversion of belief, not salvation without Islam.
