i don’t think anyone was wrong in this case. i normally hate the ‘hide the truth and breakup/be super mean to protect them’ trope, but i think it was done very well here. she had to go back to canada to take care of her sick mom — if he told her about his condition, she would be forced to make a difficult decision and feel guilty no matter who she chooses to take cate of. he also promised her he wouldn’t let her face hardship (eat bitter things), and the dilemma of who to take care of would be a hardship. plus, from his pov in the relationship, his value was in his masculinity (being able to protect her and physically take care of her) since he had no money or status. after being physically disabled, he felt emasculated and probably thought he lost the only value he had. i think the greatest thing is that he didn’t push her away by being mean to her or making her think he hates her like they usually do in dramas, which i never understood. her pov is also reasonable. they both made the most selfless decision possible
