It is one of the origins of Christmas, and is a festival which has been celebrated all over the world for thousands of years. It lasts from the 20th-23rd, with the many heading to sacred sites to bring in the Solstice dawn on the 21st ⭐️ But there are many ways to celebrate the Solstice at home or within a community ⬇️🩵 🌙 Light a fire. Fire is an important part of midwinter rituals and ceremonies as it represents the sun, which after the Solstice ,will then begin to turn into the waxing of the year. 🌙 Adorn your hearth and home with evergreens! Evergreens were an important symbol for midwinter festivities as they symbolised the return of greenery to the land and the perseverance of the natural world. 🌙 Host a Solstice feast. Feasting and merriment have long since been a part of ancient traditions and festivals. Gather friends and family and create a more traditional midwinter feast with breads, cheeses, pie, meat, fish, and soups. 🌙 Join in a local Winter Solstice celebration! You'll be surprised how many Solstice activities are out there. Facebook is actually a useful tool for this, as most organisers put their events up there. 🌙 Go to a sacred site that aligns with the Winter Solstice. Newgrange, Stonehenge, and Boscawen-Un are some examples. You will most likely find others with similar interests celebrating there also! 🌙 Host a Solstice ceremony.
