I’m a trauma nurse. We call that schrodingers hour. When we know they are dead, but no one in their life knows it yet. It’s a very surreal time, and all of us honor that time.

I always answer with “why do you want to know the worst day of someone’s life”

Honestly people have no idea the horrors that nurses witness. We have to disassociate.

I always tell people you can ask the funniest, coolest or craziest stories, but NEVER the worst.

As a trauma nurse, I hate when people ask me this. I tell them that you will never forget the guttural scream of a mother who loses her child. Usually gets them to back off.

I respond back to that comment with “those stories are the ones I only tell my therapist about” and that usually makes them stop asking me

Medic here. This is a major thought that always goes thru my head. In those moments we stand there, knowing their families lives are about to change forever and in that moment, you realize you’re the only one who knows

my mom did end of life care, even when you know death is imminent, the compartmentalization you have to have in this profession to cope is insane

I worked night shift at a psych hospital. I’ve got some dark work experiences with patients that would make a lot of people uncomfortable

People want to hear about gore, but they never want to really think about the absolute horror and devastation that this creates for our patients, their families, AND us.
