"she traveled 3 days to get paint for her birthday so she must love her a little" ...guys did we forget the fact that mother gothel was aware she would literally die if rapunzel left? she was probably just trying to appease rapunzel with something simpler like paint rather than taking her outside. it was a way to hold things over rapunzel's head to make rapunzel think: "why would i ever leave my mother? i love her so much."

Mother Gothel is one of the better written Disney villains because she clearly still does love rapunzel, even if she only loves what she can provide for her. She probably knew she could use her tears, but just didn’t want to make her cry often enough to sustain herself, because that’d mean she was miserable

I truly believe mother gothel wasn’t that bad. Don’t get me wrong she is but not your ordinary villain. She genuinely loved rapunzel and literally went on a 3 day trip JUST to buy her paints on her bday, the bday that she didn’t have to tell her existed
