@buddhaspeaks: Most people think Buddhist meditation is a hundred different techniques… but in the early Buddhist texts, it’s organized around two core trainings: 1) Samatha (Tranquility / Calm) This is the training that steadies the mind—developing composure, stability, and collectedness. A classic starting point is mindfulness of breathing, taught in the Ānāpānasati Sutta (MN 118), which lays out a structured training using the breath as the meditation theme. 2) Vipassanā (Insight / Clear Seeing) This is the training that helps you see experience as it actually is—so you understand why suffering happens and how it ends. The Buddha’s foundational framework for insight practice is the Four Foundations of Mindfulness (body, feelings, mind, and mental qualities), taught in the Satipaṭṭhāna Sutta (MN 10). And here’s the key: the Buddha didn’t present calm and insight as rival “schools.” In the Yuganaddha Sutta (AN 4.170) he describes multiple valid ways these two develop—calm leading into insight, insight leading into calm, or both in tandem—all culminating in the path. How to start today (5 minutes) Sit comfortably. Bring attention to the breath. When the mind wanders, gently return—no judgment. Over time, this builds calm, and calm supports clear seeing. If you want a practice that’s faithful to the earliest sources: Start with breath mindfulness (MN 118) and let it mature into the Four Foundations of Mindfulness (MN 10)—that’s the backbone of the training in the suttas. Save this if you want a simple, historically grounded way to begin. Sources (Early Buddhist Texts) MN 118 — Ānāpānasati Sutta (Mindfulness of Breathing) MN 10 — Satipaṭṭhāna Sutta (Foundations/Establishing of Mindfulness) AN 4.170 — Yuganaddha Sutta (Calm & Insight “in tandem”)

Albert Einstein : " If there was any religion that could meet modern scientific needs, it would be Buddhism, because it is a "cosmic religion" that avoids dogma and a personal God, and it is based on a sense of unity between the natural and spiritual worlds."
He also described the Buddhist idea of transcending personal desire to embrace all of humanity and nature as a foundation for inner security 😇🙏

SS.TanPJ :
Samantha meditation is to let your mind become so calm that you reduce all your cravings when you just exit from it.
From there you do insight meditation, with the calmness you had achieved, you will be able to let go of yourself and see the world as it is.
Slowly the convention world returned ,and you do both meditation all over again and again to get a concrete grip of the 4 noble truths and the Path leading to the end of suffering.
Sadhu ,sadhu , sadhu.

No. The Buddha did not teach two types of meditation. He did not separate Vipassana - that is the Burmese much much later tradition.
