It’s literally INSANE that people on an Angel Tree are EXPECTING to get an iPad, PS5, iPhone, etc just because they put it down. I heard the excuse “they just want to feel like every other kid on Christmas.” Plenty of people’s OWN kids ask for those things and don’t get them…now they’re just like everyone else I guess.

I wanted to do angel tree but what I see on the tickets and this app have stopped me. No 10 yr old should be expecting expensive gaming systems or electric scooters or e-bikes. It’s WILD. They can certainly ask, but not expect it. I get these kids don’t have much, but the ungratefulness and expectation that you need to drop hundreds or thousands of dollars and spend more then you might on your own kid makes me not want to bother. Parents absolutely should be setting realistic expectations with them. I’m fortunate enough that if my kid asked for those things we could pull it together and get him one of those items, but even then when he’s asked for high dollar items we set the expectation he may not get it or tell him he can save for it and we can put $ towards that item as a gift. We haven’t bought him a lot of big ticket items and instead have him save for it because that’s a very valuable lesson. He has an X-box bc he asked all his family for money for that in lieu of other presents, did extra chores to earn money and saved up for it for over a year.

Angel tree should put a price limit on what can be asked for. Otherwise the ungrateful people will discourage people from wanting to give and ruin it for those who appreciate it.
