Definitely a common thing 😔 anaemia + invisible veins. Mine were at 5 this year. Alhamdulillah that I had the iron infusion eventually.

I think it's a skin colour thing. If the person drawing the blood is white they always struggle to find mine but black nurses find my vein without an issue.

I once had 3 nurses and a doctor struggle to find a vein. They ended up using an ultrasound to take some blood

drink lots of water before getting blood drawn it helps 😭😭 but yeah somali women do commonly have iron issues. avoid caffeine and dairy an hour before or after meals. the matcha/lattes are not helping you. also consume organ meats like hilib beer/kili its the best thing for you.

I had nurses, phlebotomist and an anesthesiologist with an ultrasound try to find my veins when I was in labour just to get my iv’s in 😭😭😭 I hate doing blood tests for this exact reason

Once a nurse in the hospital thought she found my vein to connect some fluids but she did not infect put it in a vein, so I kept saying my arm is sore and I was complaining and the beautiful black nurse that was not assigned to me heard me in pain as she was walking past and came and checked my arm and she was shocked and saw my arm was the size of a balloon because the fluid had nowhere to go. She stoped it and changed the needle and found a vein and said don’t worry about the fluid in my arm will absorb in the body.
