No we get upset because you keep trying to clearly separate us from other Brits. We are tired of being told we are not British. I get that many African Americans don’t appreciate being called just American but myself personally I don’t like to be told I’m Ghanaian instead of British. Myself and my parents were born here, I’ve never been to Africa, I speak ONLY English and I am a BRIT🤨

Also making fun of soul food is like making fun of a bag of hundred dollar bills. “Oh look at you being all green and valuable and useful during this trying times….”

Black Brits are Brits. Brits of all races eat the same food, sure there may be some additional influences from parents, grandparents or even great grandparents at home, but it is still all of our food. My friend group at school consisted of me (2nd gen Irish), a 3rd gen Indian, 2nd gen Nigerian, 1st gen Polish, 2nd gen Somali as well as white English. We all ate the same food as each other at school and to go out to eat, with cultural dishes too. British and white aren't interchangeable terms, and we are proud of our multicultural society.

The perfect video to show how American racial segregation did immeasurable damage to class consciousness in America between its working class compared to the UK.

I’m so confused on how people are actually trying to divide black peoples based on where they grew up. If someone wants to defend the food they grew up eating, what’s the issue? If someone is black British and wants to claim that they can claim that. Seeing GROWN ADULTS in this comment section talking about “master this” “master that” “you a rent truly British” is fucking disgusting. These people are the reason why certain people never feel like they belong somewhere where their families have lived for years. Automatically separating people based on race is where the first issue came in on this side.

We are British. We eat British food. We like it (we know they under season stuff but sometimes it works). We don't only eat ethnic food.

its not that we're 'patriotic' or have 'assimilated' but this is the food of the british working class period. the food we ate ALONGSIDE our cultural food because it was affordable and kept you full which is really all you can ask for when you grow up poor in a foreign country

that’s the problem though - you’re saying “we’re not talkin about your food” - but it is ! we’ve only been here for 2-4 generations for the most part and yes while we still have connections to our African / Caribbean cultures, we don’t separate so heavily between “black British” and “white British” - I’ve never called myself black British except on medical reports - we’re all just British.

My question is what is black British food? I'm not talking about African food. But food specifically made by black British people that they can call their own.
