As someone who does usually read over 100 books a year (I think i’m at about 80 this year), I have never judged others for reading less than that. Reading even 1 or 2 books is incredible and should be something that you’re proud of! I think that the amount of books that one is able to read is heavily dependent on genre and some genres are a lot heavier and take more time to read & digest. Nothing wrong with either! But I do think that everyone should try to engage with material that is challenging for them in whatever way that may be

I have never seen someone who reads 100+ books a year shaming someone for reading less. The hate and extremely weird vibes only come from the other direction. All reading amounts and all forms of it are good. It’s not a competition.

I read over 100 books a year but it’s my main hobby. I read fiction MUCH faster than nonfiction. I really sit with my nonfictions and annotate them. I don’t like the competition aspect of it either it feels less fun and mean. Everyone reads differently and has other things that take their time

Nah the people hating on people who just sit and read feels way more mean girl then the people who read a lot. There’s no you can’t sit with us but a lot of “you didn’t really do that” which comes around every end of year. We’re over it

When you read from the library, there’s a time limit on returning them. Not everyone can afford to buy every book they read and can’t slowly savor them because they have to be returned for others to enjoy as well. Just a thought. I read over 100 books a year but I don’t really care about other people’s numbers… this whole conversation is so… idk lame.

i've had years where i've read 12 books and years where i've read 90. i'm at about 80 this year. i would never judge anyone for reading less. even one book is more than the VAST majority of people!
