My diesel Citroen recommended I put 10% unleaded in if it was very cold or if the diesel was known to be of poor quality.

Doubt it as once you replace the nozzle the pump stops so he would have to pay for the petrol even on a manned or unmanned pump

I had a friend fill my diesel car up with about 10 or 12 quid worth of petrol back at the end of November of last year at a Tesco petrol station at which point you have to go in and explain to the four court attendant that he’d attempted to put the wrong fuel in the car and needed to fill the tank up with diesel as quickly as possible to dilute the petrol. They allowed it if you go in and explain it to them they will allow it, but no, you cannot automatically pick up one pump real realize what you’re doing and then just correct it by picking the other pump up it won’t let you do that. It’s it won’t let you you have to pay for the first lot of fuel.

So long as you don’t put too much petrol in a diesel tank , you’ll get away with it. Your car will accelerate a lot quicker of course, as the electrodes easily ignite the petroleum, but if you put diesel in your petrol tank, then the car is going straight to the mechanics.

I got called an idiot by an old guy once cos I died my van with diesel, then picked the petrol nozzle up, he was very red faced when I opened the side door to reveal a generator and a weld set that both ran on petrol

we used to put a couple quarts of kerosene in before filling with diesel to keep the fuel from jelling when it got bitter cold

It's POSSIBLE it's deliberate but unlikely in this day and age.... Diesel doesn't like cold weather and turns gel like. It struggles to be pumped. One solution was to add petrol to the diesel to reduce the impact. Although these days I suspect that diesel has an additive to help. As an aside, it wasn't uncommon to see lorry drivers lighting small fires under the fuel tanks of their lorries for the same reason. External tanks being the problem. The other reason it's likely to be genuine is that the nozzles are different sizes, although it is to prevent diesel being put into a petrol engine as that is more of a problem, so the diesel nozzle is bigger and won't fit properly in a petrol filler valve.

Most Diesels will run on around 50% for a bit. 5-10% is absolutely fine

A lil bit of gas helps diesel fuel not gel in cold weather that could be why🤷♂️

In Scandinavian countries some people put a few litres of petrol in when filling up diesel . It has a lower waxing temperature than the diesel. Helps with engine running in colder temperatures

my mates scrapyard used to get old smoker diesels through mots by putting couple gallons petrol in just for the mot year ago. plus arctic- East Europe in old vw golf manual yrs back they suggested bit petrol in diesel in v cold, stop waxing.

I don't know about there. But here diesel pumps are separate from gas. At least where I worked at it was.
