The problem is, everyone thinks they’re gifted. Nobody thinks they’re average.

I think this is where a lot of people get pulled into addiction. it starts as a way to cope with feeling trapped in society 🤷🏻

Replace "gifted" with "neurodivergent" and I agree. Neurodivergent people very quickly get the intuition that the advice that works for other brains DOES NOT work for ours. I do take issue with "levels" that imply hierarchy.

one of the biggest problems; society does not value/ actively discourages self actualization in favor of hierarchy

gifted people most of the time are just neurodivergent people who fit into society better on average so they don’t get that label. i have adhd and this and very relatable

I’m feeling this so deeply currently. I graduated college and have a full time and part time job to save up money right now and I already feel trapped. I’m a creative soul and I don’t feel fulfilled sitting in an office, working for other people, or working 40 years of my life away. I am miserable right now. I’m trying to hone my crafts and create my own life that lets me escape from this nightmare of a reality

I joined MENSA hoping to find more people who wanted to change the world, just found people who want to do puzzles. That was confusing. So I agree, we have to go it alone

low k recommend any gifted person to dive into studying philosophy seriously, and try to find a friend to discuss with or just write abt it. This is the best way to put your awareness and "outsideness" to use, not only improving your questions but helping you find answers and frequent thought patterns.

my drive to self actualize started as soon as i was forced to sit in a classroom every day and the boredom felt like it was genuinely killing me lol like i could comprehend the lesson in 5 minutes but the class spent an entire week on it. i had to dissociate and entertain myself in my mind otherwise i would go insane. it felt like listening to someone repeating the same sentence for 40 hours straight.

This is really interesting. My biggest challenge has always been the “burden of intelligence” in seeing problems, being unable to fix them, and just knowing how much is wrong with the world

Soooooooo true! And it never ends. As soon as I feel I've met a challenge, I have to move on to what's next. I literally can't help it. Achievement is just a by-product. If I'm not learning and growing, I literally don't feel alive.

I went to a highly ranked university & now work at a fortune 5, giftedness comes a dime a dozen. Personal agency, conscientiousness and other traits always come before raw intelligence with regard to self actualization.

Growth is a lonely path. So many people aren’t even self-aware, let alone, fully self-actualized. I appreciate your insights!

I thought I was the only one with these thoughts lol. It’s like I HAVE TO. I don’t have choice.. the other path is legitimately intolerable

I have felt like this since I was a kid. The problem I’m having is what to do for money to survive. Because unfortunately still need food. And I would like a house. And I’ve been so introspective and self critical that I’m completely tired and stuck.

Thinking about living a regular life makes me feel like I’ve been traumatised by it. So suffocating. Worst thing that could happen to me. Building a big live doesn’t even feel like a luxury but a necessity 😭

i came to terms with my neurodivergence about a year ago. I kinda forgot i was gifted as a child and only very recently found out giftedness is basically its own “genre” of ND-ness. thanks for the resources, as someone who is newly trying to navigate this!

I feel you. On the path you have to intentionally unlearn what people told you was “wrong” and learn to accept yourself truly and that’s so hard when you’re not going to get validation for it, actually probably the opposite.

Your intelligence can scale your ego, being ambitious is not inherently good or worth obsessing over. The question you have to ask yourself is why are you really trying to “fully utilize your intelligence”. You gotta ask yourself why self hatred for “not fully exploring your capabilities” is coming from.
