Mav Gonzales' documentary "Sumuko na ang Bataan" on I-Witness discusses the historic event of the Bataan Death March during World War II. On April 9, 1942, over 75,000 Filipino and American soldiers surrendered to the Japanese, leading to a brutal march from Mariveles, Bataan to Capas, Tarlac, covering 110 kilometers. During the march, thousands died from hunger, thirst, disease, and torture by the Japanese. It is estimated that 5,000-18,000 Filipinos and 500-650 American soldiers died. Those who survived suffered severe trauma and physical injuries. The Bataan Death March is an important part of Philippine history, demonstrating the resilience and sacrifice of Filipino and American soldiers.
