when you showed the logo I literally said oof. I choose to believe they saved him from the beach and he just lost the crystal arm. even the creators admit the ending is open ended so I choose peace.

SPOILERS FOR ANYONE WHO HASNT SEEN THE ENDING!!! So we know that the Phoenix can’t revive people (stated by Joshua) which means the author being Joshua is almost definitely Clive (has a history stealing names with Cid lol.) We also know the Aether corruption thing would’ve stopped at his elbow since he got rid of all magic before it consumed him. So long story short, Clive lives 👍 (probably)

He did survive. The game hints it very hard. First off only Clive has seen everything so only he would have been able to write the story. He also always has an alias. First Cid and it makes sense he took his brother's name to write the book. Also there was no more magic since he got rid of it all, so his body couldn't have died due to it corrupting him by using it. The end is tricking you.

So you can argue either way, but I think he is alive. To add to what others said, you have to discern the shot selections they did. Remember the whole ‘Jill wishing on Metia for Clive’s return’ and then with the sunrise she “knew he was okay”. The placement of her looking at the sky, seeing the light of Metia go out, being sad, but then seeing the sunrise was done for a reason. She no longer needs to wish, the world is safe, and Clive will be safe.

It was Torgal howling that broke me. 😭 Like, I knew the ending would be bittersweet because I play XIV and know how CBU3 does things; but Torgal howling in mourning just sent me absolutely over a cliff. 😭

His fate is sadly up to interpretation, but i guess this is somewhat a hint to Clive’s survival. In the last quest for Harpocrates, Clive said that he’ll drop the sword & pick up the pen after his goal is reached, so did he write the book? who knows but i like to believe he did survive. Plus he’s narrating
