👀📝 Here’s how I manage my money as a financially responsible 31 year old dad with $100k invested

1️⃣ All my paychecks get deposited directly into my checking account. I keep roughly 1 month’s worth of bills and expenses here, plus a small cushion if I’m able to. Car payments, insurance, my bi-weekly mortgage payment, utilities, and CC payments are debited directly. 2️⃣ My 401k contributions + employer match come out of my check before it even hits my bank account. It’s automatically invested into a target date fund with Principal. 3️⃣ I have a debit card, but it’s rarely used. If I ever need to make a Venmo or Zelle payment, I’ll use that, but otherwise, it stays in my wallet. Never use your own money to pay for things! Credit cards protect you because you’re using the bank’s money - it’s much easier to remove a charge than to try and claw back your money. 4️⃣ Everyday purchases go through my Amazon Prime Visa. This covers groceries, eating out, and other miscellaneous things throughout the month. 5️⃣ My Wells Fargo Visa is only really used for gas and car repairs. It’s my oldest card, so it’s easy to keep it open with just these payments. 6️⃣ I contribute $625 each month to my Roth IRA. I set up automatic contributions AND investments so its really hands off. I allocate 80% to VOO and 20% to VXUS for growth and diversity. 7️⃣ Lastly, my HYSA! This is where I keep my emergency fund. I earn 3.2% interest, which means every month I get roughly $70 just for keeping my money there. This is how I currently manage all my money. Nothing super fancy, but it’s the system I’ve used for years and what works for me!
