I would put change in the counter if I had to pick money up off the counter. ESPECIALLY if my hand was out waiting for it. If they set it down to continue to dig and I picked it up on my own that was fine, but you can hand the money to the cashier in their hand.

I had a friend years ago who worked as a cashier and she was African American and she would tell me some people would put the $ on the counter instead of in her hand so I make it a point to put the & in the cashier's hand bc I just never thought of it as bring racial and if I had $ on the counter I m looking for mire change in my purse be nice to retail workers I was 1 myself many yrs ago
