@kellytowart: My son is not the only one adopted in this family. We all are. And adoption was never God’s plan B. Not even for his own son. This isn’t plan B for Quinn’s life either. We were chosen for each other with intention. Bbefore he was ever conceived God knew he would be ours, and while brokenness is never part of God’s plan, he works all things for our good and his glory. There is brokenness in adoptive stories. I am sure that for Joseph, watching his wife giving birth in a stable far from her home and the support of her family, to a baby that was not biologically his, was not his original plan. Was there room for him to grieve? Of course. But did he also recognize that this was God’s plan A for his life all along? It may have taken a visit from an angel (and further confirmation from some wisemen and shepherds 😉) but I think Joseph quickly realized that while this plan wasn’t without pain, it was deeply full of purpose, God’s goodness and his presence. Adoption, in God’s eyes, is never plan B. Not for Jesus. Not for Joseph. Not for Mary. Not for our family. Not for Quinn. And this adoptive mama loves that its beautifully written into the Christmas story.
