In the Catholic Church at least, priests don’t just forgive your sins, but also assign you penance to complete in order for those sins to be forgiven. Idk what it was like historically, but for me growing up it was like “say 5 Hail Marys and 5 Our Fathers”. Women priests may have actually given real consequences so obviously gotta avoid that!

also it rubbed me the wrong way that the pope felt the need to clarify this year that Mary is not a co-redeemer. like Jesus wouldn't exist without her. she raised him. everyone wants to talk about how god sacrificed his only son for us (which btw what does that even mean? he didn't give birth to him, he created him the same way he created all of us) but what about the fact he was Mary's child?

I’ve just never been impressed with Jesus sacrificed his life for our sins, every person I know would give their life for their kids or their nieces or nephews. It’s just really not that big of a deal 🤷🏻♀️
