@shaan.u: On my life I am not going to become a cold take merchant (because “100 books a year” isn’t even discourse; I’m not providing an opinion here. It’s all observable/measurable fact) but I see a couple of these videos daily right now and I am easily ragebaited by nonsense. #BookTok #reading #100booksayear #bookrecs

I have full time job, I am a mom of two and I train jiu jitsu 5 days a week. And I was still able to read 80 books this year (physical and audiobooks). If you want to you can.

it’s very easy to read while you’re eating dinner, at the gym, or would otherwise be on your phone.

If you treat opening your book the same way you do with a scroll through reels wherever you are, then 100 books wouldn’t be your maximum! I read on long doctor appointment waits or on the bus even if it was for 15minutes or less. Those little minutes add up through out your day!

In 2023, i was in my final 2 semesters of college. I began studying for the LSAT in July 2023; From July 2023-Dec 2023; I took 15 credit hours, studied 50 hours on the LSAT and increased 14 points from my LSAT diagnostic score; completed 2 simultaneous internships; joined the executive board of my school’s classics club and RAN our book club and social media; did 2 other extra curriculars; began applying to law school, and graduated from Howard University. In those last 6 months of the year…I read 42 books. 70 total for 2023. My reading goes UP the busier I get 😭😊 (moral of the story; if you PRIORITIZE reading—especially as a way to escape, you’ll make time for it)

Page count is too ambiguous of a metric to go by given the variation in book and text size. Word count should be used for comparisons

This is one of the thousand reasons I love public transportation. I can read on my commute. That’s so valuable to me.

Add 3 kids and a Wife to the mix, then becomes much more difficult. But overall agree. Screentime murders the book gains

I totally agree that most of it has to do with prioritizing reading but I refuse to get hung up on the number of books or pages or whatever. people should be more concerned with retaining and fully comprehending the text instead of trying to appear well read because they read 100 books a year LOL

I read over 100 books and the X factor is audiobooks. I commute 30 minutes to work (60 minutes total), plus 60 minutes at the gym, and I listen while I cook/clean. So 3+ hours per day of audiobooks and then I read 2+ hours of a physical book.

Reading is not the same as understanding and analysing. Passively read a book and knowing its plot is not the same as understanding the language, themes and symbolism found in a book. Lastly, not all books are made equal. Most contemporary novel, while they may be enjoyable in nature, as i have read and liked many, are lighter reads and offer not much depth and the time consumed on them is no different than watching a good tv series or movie. Do not aim for a number but aim to enjoy, learn and explore literature

Never really get it why some get offended that other people are capable to read a hundred books in year
