@dustinreadsbooks: What if I ranked all of Stephen King’s books from the 1970s? 👀📚 I’m working my way through his books in publication order, and I’m finally finished with the first decade! Books mentioned: Carrie Salem’s Lot The Shining Night Shift The Stand The Long Walk The Dead Zone #BookTok #reading #horror #stephenking #bookish
Controversial opinion: Anyone that says the shining movie was better than the book clearly didn’t read it. The amount of backstory and nuances that were missed/overlooked in the movie is kind of ridiculous.

Rage is boring and extremely overhyped and pretty tame compared to alot of his other work

I totally agree with you on your love for “the shining”. Not only is it a great read, It’s also a pretty amazing audiobook with Campbell Scott doing a terrific job on the narration.

good ranking. I would have done night shift at number 4. I read Rage in the 80s and liked it. rereading it later it didn't hold up. of the Bachman books it is better than Roadwork, but that is about it.

Does the book explain the shining better? I watched the movie and I just didn’t get it but if the book is better I would like to read it

My first Stephen King book that I read was The Long Walk, then The Mist. I loved them and decided last week I would start this very challenge. Started Carrie today. I realized I've seen all the movie and TV adaptations but never read anything by him. Glad I found your page. love the content!

I love The Shining. I read Doctor Sleep immediately after and wish there were more books in this universe. So disturbing and so good.

In 2020, I was a janitor. But the building I cleaned was closed to everyone. Everyone but me. So I had nothing to do all day but clean an already clean building and listen to audiobooks. My love of reading bloomed in this time because the news and social media was scary but escaping into these other worlds was freeing. The Stand was not a good decision for me to read in that time lol. It terrified me. Fantastic book

I think I agree with your rankings. My biggest problem with The Long Walk is that despite walking for hours and hours and hours on end without stopping, NOBODY EVER CHAFES!!! Especially in blue jeans. Bullshit. That’s so unrealistic. I’m a runner, and skin care to prevent chaffing is a huge deal. Clearly he wrote that book before he started going on his daily walks. lol.
