🚨Facebook is scanning photos on your phone that you’ve never posted. Here’s what’s actually happening, and how to stop it. The setting is called camera roll cloud processing. If it’s on, Facebook uploads media from your phone to Meta’s cloud on an ongoing basis, then uses AI to analyze it based on time, location, themes, and the people or objects in your photos. Meta’s own description confirms this. Opting in also accepts Meta’s AI Terms of Service, which permit AI analysis of media and facial features. Meta says the photos aren’t used for ad targeting and that turning the feature off removes uploaded content from the cloud after 30 days. The feature is currently rolling out in the US and Canada (not Illinois or Texas), and as an opt-in version in the EU and UK. Here’s how to check the setting and turn it off: ✅ First, open the Facebook app and tap Menu in the bottom right. ✅ Second, go to Settings and Privacy, then Settings. ✅ Third, find Camera roll sharing suggestions and tap it. ✅ Fourth, toggle off “Get creative ideas made for you by allowing camera roll cloud processing.” Blue means on. Gray means off. ✅ Fifth, lock it down at the phone level too. On iPhone: Settings, Privacy, Photos, Facebook, switch from “All Photos” to “Selected Photos” or “None.” On Android: Settings, Apps, Facebook, Permissions, Photos and Videos, “Don’t allow.” That last step is the one most people miss. Even with the in-app toggle off, the Facebook app can still see your full library if your phone permissions are set to “All Photos.” 🔒 Send to the friend or family member who taps “Allow” on every pop-up without reading it.
