Composed Under Pressure / Individual Centerback Session Great individual center back session with Tony from VSA. Since this was one of our first sessions together, we talked beforehand about areas he wanted to improve, with a big emphasis on his distribution, weak foot, and ability to play under pressure. We started with ball mastery and juggling before progressing into passing work. The focus was simple: quality first touch, accurate passes, and consistency with both feet. We worked from short passes into medium and longer-range distribution, while also incorporating scanning, opening up, headers, and receiving across the body. The drills may look simple, but that’s the point. As a center back, those short passes have to become extremely consistent. A good first touch and the ability to play quickly can make a huge difference when pressure is coming. Toward the end, we added live pressure. Tony had to recognize when he could take his first touch forward and play, or when he needed to stay composed, protect the ball, turn away from pressure, and find another option. No matter the position, the fundamentals carry over. Good first touch, confidence on both feet, awareness, and composure under pressure. For a center back looking to play at a higher level, those qualities become even more important. Really solid session from Tony.
