It had just crossed the Highlands/Sea Bright Bridge. He chased the car. The driver kept weaving on northbound Route 36. McGrath hit his lights near Waddell Avenue. He got out and talked to the driver, Nicole Husar. He smelled alcohol on her breath. He saw other signs she was impaired. She said she was heading to grab her husband at the ferry. Patrolman Kevin Connor showed up to help. He had her step out for sobriety tests. McGrath did the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus first. He noted no smooth eye tracking. There was jerking at max deviation. It started before 45 degrees. Next came the Walk and Turn. Nicole missed heel-to-toe steps. She turned wrong. She took the wrong count each way. Then the One Leg Stand. She didn't lift her foot right. She dropped it too soon. Last, recite the alphabet A to Z. She couldn't do it well. Her wild driving, booze smell, and bad test scores led to arrest. Patrolman Connor took her to the station. There, they read her the motor vehicle statement. She agreed to breath tests. The Alcotest showed 0.287% BAC—over three times the 0.08% limit. Citations went to Nicole: Operating under influence (39:4-50) Reckless driving (39:4-96) Traffic on marked lanes (39:4-88) Driving unregistered vehicle (39:3-4) No insurance on vehicle (39:6B-2) She had a prior DWI arrest in Shrewsbury, NJ, on March 22, 2023. Before that, on March 2, 2023, in Long Branch, NJ, she got tickets for not reporting a crash and leaving the scene. 5:30 I just want to see her husband!!
