Always hated that we learned the sanitised version of history. Always the good side of the government, and not much of the shameful mistakes. I know many topics were heavy but not telling us about it at all made generations of oblivious civilians. This was an interesting eye opener topic to me, thanks for making this vid.

Sounds quite similar to current drug problem amongst fishermen in East Coast Semenanjung and a state in Borneo. if I'm not mistaken. There was a documentary covering that.

yeah what I read from James Jackson on plantations, when Francis Light got (robbed) Kedah from Sultan Kedah in 1786, he can barely make profit, as the administration cost a lot and they couldn't impose taxes as EIC ruled Penang as free port. so they rely a lot on opium tax and china market before other plantations flourished
