“Get the name right” -sure 😌 0101 is a actually logo based on the sound “oi-oi.” It represents Marui, but the numbers aren’t read as “Marui.” Same way Yamato isn’t called the cat store.

Their old logo for Marui was a circle with a kanji character for i (the same character for “a water well”) in it. Maru is another name for a circle. Thus the logo stood for maru-i.

◯ (circle)=maru, not zero or oh. Marui was the 1st department store to accept monthly payment before everyone own credit cards. I remember my mom said “get that thing from Marui to pay monthly but I don’t wanna carry around marui’s shopping bag” 🤣
