I know this is a spoiler, but Donovan can actually read minds like Anya, but more powerful than hers. Melinda thinks Damian can also read minds that's why everything in her mind are negative and can act like Donovan. She deeply cares and love Damiam, but Donovan was like giving his family a trauma.

Donovan can read minds, he was one of the firsts, but bc of that, he can only read SOME parts, not fully read people’s minds. And the mom did speculate that he could reads, that’s why her thoughts are like that, to protect Damian. The dad can’t use her love for Damian against her.

My guess is that Damian’s mom sees Yor as an extension of her dream of being a strong, hardworking, and caring woman with a lovely supportive family. She also wants to have genuine, true friends and not be involved in politics. Her engagement with Donovan was arranged, and she has been emotionally traumatized by his husband’s actions and behaviour towards her and the family, which has made her feel unable to be herself and feel repulsed towards anything that involves Donavan.
