We Are NOT All God’s Children That statement makes people uncomfortable—but comfort has never been the goal of truth. The Bible is clear: being created by God is not the same as being a child of God. Every person bears His image. Every person has value. Every person is loved by God. But sonship is not automatic. Scripture never says we are born children of God. It says we must become children of God. “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God.” (John 1:12) Before Christ, the Bible doesn’t call us sons—it calls us dead in sin and children of wrath (Ephesians 2:1–3). Jesus Himself told the religious leaders that their claim to God as Father was false because they rejected Him (John 8:42–44). So how do we become God’s children? Not by morality. Not by church attendance. Not by heritage. Not by good intentions. Only by the substitutionary blood of Jesus Christ. “In Him we have redemption through His blood.” (Ephesians 1:7) “Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.” (Hebrews 9:22) The cross was not symbolic. The blood was not optional. The sacrifice was not unnecessary. We were outsiders—until the blood made us family. The gospel is not that we discovered we were already God’s children. The gospel is that Jesus paid the price to adopt us. “Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.” (1 John 5:12) That’s the line. That’s the truth. That’s the invitation. We are not all God’s children.
