Girl I’m so sorry you’re going through this. These are the worst contractors. I think they’re so jealous of successful women. I had an electrician put in a new thermostat for the floor heating and the used my bed as his tool mat 😑 then on his way out picked up one of my pillows (yes it’s a uniquely shaped pillow) but he picked it up and then tossed it back on the furniture and said ‘ weird what’s this’? It was such a bizarre experience of adult behaviour. Also, there are excellent and intelligent contractors out here SO deserving of your generosity. I hope you find a really good one

I find this trend with many contractors tho. They feel it’s beneath them to explain their work to a woman or even dare to consider they might have a point that they didn’t see.

My wife and I used to renovate houses. It was going to be my retirement job before situations allowed me to not have to have a retirement job. I did exactly what you were describing, and it never once paid off. But I started doing instead was making sure that the “little guys“ who are doing the work have drinks, coffee, snacks, and usually donuts and sometimes dinner. I never once felt like any of the contractors I worked with “took care of me” because of my going above and beyond on pay, I never haggled with any of them, and all I wanted was a really nice job.
