I'm not letting a machine at a hardware store sharpen a $300 kitchen knife

There was a time in the 70s when the knife man would drive his truck around my neighborhood in Philly and sharpen kitchen knives. God damn I’m old. 😢

Mr.Friday :
To be clear: I've taken my Shun, Global, Victorinox blades to ACE / ReSharp worth thousands of dollars and that machine is state of the art. My knives come out like new, fine knicks are taken out of the blade and is totally reworked. this machine is very good.

Is this at all Ace locations? How much is it per knife?

This must be the only Ace hardware with this sharpener. I have asked several around me and they think I’m mad.

Let’s not buy a honing stone and some oil and learn to sharpen blades on our own.

i'm so glad there are people in this comment section who agrees with my thoughts on this. As a service industry worker, I feel like sharpening a knife by hand would be a lot more resourceful than using this thing. and stop putting your knives in the dishwasher, dang it!

This may produce an acceptable result, but a craftsman will do better

Our ace had one and got rid of it. My buck knife with a s30v blade would come out like a razor and hold it for months expensive but worth it

Ms Bianca ⁷ 🇺🇲🇯🇵 :
I took my French knives and some of my other favorite knives to my local ACE Hardware and was done and walking out the door in about 15-ish minutes. The blades looked great and had clean, sharp edges. I'll definitely go back again. Do note - they don't do serrated blades.

I wonder how many times an Ace employee would ask if I needed help while I waited on my knives to be sharpened 😂😂😂

Girard Knives :
If I understand correctly there is a minimum and maximum blade length the machine will sharpen. Smaller folding knives can’t be sharpened on this.

Thanks for the info I just did a search and see my local Ace hardware has one of these so I’ll be taking my CUTCO knives in even though I can send them off and have them sharpened for free…. I’ll definitely check this out for the non-serrated ones.
