BMW N47 Timing Chain Replacement Without Engine Removal | Part 2. • We continue the major repair project on a 2008 BMW 3 Series equipped with the 2.0 diesel N47D20 engine. This is part two of the series focused on one of the most difficult repairs on these engines - timing chain replacement without removing the engine. • In the first part, the automatic transmission was removed, giving access to the rear side of the engine where BMW placed the entire timing chain system. • In this video, we continue disassembly to finally reach the timing chain assembly. Due to the engine design, a large number of components must be removed before accessing the timing system. • The repair includes removing the valve cover, diesel fuel injectors, engine oil pan, and finally the rear engine cover where the timing chain system is located. • One common problem during this repair is injector removal. On high mileage diesel engines, injectors often seize inside the cylinder head and may require special tools for safe extraction. • Another challenge involves the oil pan removal.
