Reading these comments makes me realize community colleges don’t play these games. My instructors were SO strict, I can’t even put it into words. Now as a nurse, I always notice a huge difference between the community college students at clinicals and the accelerated BSN. No offense to those accelerated students, but it seems like a big critical thinking step is missing. I’m sure that’s not the case for everybody, just what I’ve seen with some local programs

A couple years ago I was a clinical instructor at a college here - so many students don’t care. Came to clinical late, not in uniform, didn’t do their work or turn in their work. College would not allow us to fail them - we had to “remediate” them - IN CLINICAL. I quit after 2.5 years. And now they’ve dumbed down NCLEX - it’s so scary we’re seeing a lot more of these stories

I feel like the NCLEX only focuses on remembered knowledge and not applicable knowledge, critical thinking. I’m not sure how to test for this but we need to discuss this.

Honestly, as someone who precepts new nurses, the caliber of new grad coming out of nursing school right now is really not great. Interestingly, enough, the ADN programs seem to be producing the best nurses in my opinion. The MSN programs are producing some real crappy nurses when it comes to actual nursing skills.
