Completely resonate with everything you said! You said it so well. I don’t think people realize that there has been so little film/TV like this. There are amazing indie films and TV shows that were great, but it’s quite a small number. And so much of it was so independent that until you were on the internet more, you didn’t know much about it. I think this show was done so, so well. I really think it will push cinema/TV into new forefronts like QAF did. The culture made most of us feel very alone, and I think this is going to help many of us grown ups who didn’t get a chance to feel seen now feel seen.

I’ve yet to watch heated rivalry but I’m glad to see gay content like this being made. I agree, I wish we had shows like this in the 2000s when we were growing up. I remember when Love Simon came out in 2018. I was so excited to watch it and kept asking myself if I was being weird for being that excited for a HS gay romcom. But my excitement was because I’d wish I’d had a movie like that in my high school years 🥲
