@pinktides_: Since 1989, a single whale has wandered the Pacific, singing a song no other whale responds to. We don’t know what it looks like, its size, or even its exact species. We don't even know if it is male or female. All we know is its voice. While blue and fin whales communicate in a deep thrum (15–25 Hz), this whale calls at 52 Hz. A pitch that sets it apart from every known population. While it searched for an a connection, we filled its world with a mechanical smog of sound. Shipping noise and sonar have risen dramatically, masking the calls marine life depends on to survive. Unlike plastic, noise pollution disappears the moment we stop. But until we do, the ocean remains a wall of static. We didn’t create its silence. We just removed the space where connection might have been possible. Sound travels faster and farther underwater than in air. For some species, noise doesn’t just confuse..... it isolates. #whales #marinebiology #oceanconservation #oceanlife #saveourseas

And one day, when the world ends, the forest will overtake the buildings. The trees will grow through all the houses. The deer and the rabbits will roam freely. And the earth will heal.

I’d like to point out that other whales can definitely hear 52 Blue. He’s not calling outside of normal whale hearing range, he’s just calling at a slightly different frequency. He basically has a heavy accent

Someone said, "no whale has ever died of natural causes. Before they succumb to whatever ails them, they sink and they drown." One of the saddest things I've ever heard.

I really hope there’s a time when we are no longer and the earth and the animals get their time to thrive

I think the point is being missed. I used the 52-Hz whale as an example, but this isn’t about one whale or one frequency. Even whales that vocalise in the normal range are increasingly turning up stranded because ocean noise disrupts communication and navigation. This is a real, ongoing issue with real consequences not just a story. 💙

We're slowly destroying all God's beautiful creatures. We are truly the evil in the planet.

its the water's heartbeat, it IS alive you know, right? it has a FACE and it has SKIN. That means it IS a being! I think the sound must be from the water itself calling out...

I feel this same ache of being unheard in a population that speaks the same language but somehow is still unable to comprehend.

People talk about our planet being taken over by aliens one day but I often think we are that very thing they speak of. So much destruction just for self gain with no care for the living beings affected

What makes me sad is how quickly this turned into a technical one-upmanship.
Because the point wasn’t to win a debate..... it was to reflect on isolation, noise, and our impact on the ocean.
