@plumbingdoctors: Replying to @AM The reason most tradesmen in the UK would rather replace parts than repair them comes down to labour cost 💷 When you factor in time on site, stripping something down, cleaning it 🧼, rebuilding it, and then risking it still not working properly or leaking later on 🚿 — replacement is often more cost-effective 🔧 In many cases, it’s cheaper to swap the part than spend hours trying to save it ⏱️ That’s just the reality of working in the UK 🇬🇧 That said, I’m all for repairing where it makes sense 💪 If it won’t take long, I’ll strip it down, clean it out, and put it right — and I do believe that makes you a better engineer 🧠🔧 But sometimes, repairing isn’t the smartest option ⚖️ On the flip side, in places like Kashmir and Pakistan, almost nothing gets thrown away 🌍 Everything is repaired because labour rates are low and the cost of living is very different — so over there, repairing is far more cost-effective than replacing 🔄 Different countries, different economics, different approaches 👌 #Plumber #GasEngineer #HeatingEngineer #PlumbingLife #TradeTalk

The amount of time I do repairs on old boilers and then they have further different faults and you are committed. Customers can lose faith in you because they don’t understand and just think you only fixed it a couple month go

If it’s simple fix fair enough but if ya fixing really old boilers n subtle goes a week later customer expecting it fixed for nowt as they don’t believe it’s another fault and not your repair faulty. Nothings built to last anymore, duo tecs last of the decent sturdy boilers, Worcester baxi ideal etc all the new models just cheap plastic on daft clips that’s why big warranty’s from manufacturer cos that cheap to make n they will get replacement bits for pennys the way they made these days.

I would have to think about what part you could even repair instead of replace it. So yes, just replace the parts.

Labour in England is high because of the cost of living in this country. Also new boilers are cheap when you consider most will last say 10 years

If it's a simple fix, Anyone can repair it. The problem with labour costs is usually down to incompetent Engineers or Engineers dragging out the job to make more money.
