There's an annual medieval festival near me in Sicily and I was also puzzled by the amount of dishes with potatoes in it. I thought the end of the medieval period was start of the Renaissance which according to Google is fall of Constantinople (1453) or Columbus' journey (1492). The main part of the Columbian exchange was late 15th thru 16th century which puts it in the Renaissance period
