This is partially true. The skeletons that were used in the Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland were harvested from Disney’s prop warehouse. Most prop warehouses Studios had human skeletons during that time. Most of the skeletons were 100+ years old. They didn’t have enough for the show scene so what they did is they made castings of the skeletons and duplicated them. From what I understand there were about five human skeletons inside the attraction when it opened. All the others were just castings. None of the skeletons are cadaver skeletons from a university. Even in 1965 when the attraction was being developed, that would’ve been absurd. Not to mention the biohazard issue. Now I was working on the Pirates of the Caribbean refurbishment at Walt Disney World in 2003 and we did discover that one of the skeletons on the beach were actually human remains. We did do a casting of it and replaced it. Also up until 1999 the two hanging skeletons in the expanding rooms, “stretching rooms”, at the Haunted Mansion at Walt Disney World were human skeletons. They have since been replaced. Bones become brittle overtime and just are not structurally sound for a long-term installation. Before I started working at Walt Disney World, one of the feet fell off of one of the hanging skeletons and landed on the scrim in stretch room one. It was there for a few weeks apparently.
