If you put a bunch of seeds in one spot/group, isn’t it hard to transplant them?

Do you keep the grow light on for 12 hours everyday? First time starting onion seeds.

Why not have 24 hours of light over the seeds? At least until they get ready to transplant to a larger container?the heat mat is not bad as long as the temp is staying at 72. Anymore can kill your seeds.
