Jessica Ridgeway’s mother called 911 on October 5, 2012, after her 10-year-old daughter never arrived at school. She reported that Jessica had walked toward school that morning but never made it, which was completely out of character. Police and the community immediately began searching. Weeks later, Jessica was found d.eceased. A teenage neighbor, Austin Sigg, later confessed, admitting he abducte.d and k*lled her shortly after she left home.

Jessica I knew her, and I knew the family. My mom went to nursing school with Jessica’s aunt Becca, they became friends and she was our babysitter, she was family to us. When we found out this happened, we were so broken hearted. RIP JESSICA💜

This is why absentee calls should go out as soon as attendance is taken. Waiting until the evening time is no help if the kid never made it to school.

Where I live kids as little as 5 walk to school alone 😓 when I walked my kids I would take the same path as them to keep an eye on them.

I live across the street from my children’s school and I still didn’t let them walk by themselves. Anything can happen anyone can happen. 10 years old is definitely too young to allow your child and walk to school by themselves. I don’t know a correct age, but I know ten is too young.

I remember this like it was yesterday, this was absolutely horrible. My kids school is two blocks away and I remember driving them to school from there on because it was too scary to let them walk even if it was with a group of kids.
