The idea that Unity consciousness means losing your individuality, authorship, or sovereignty is inversion distortion.
True unity doesn’t erase you, it amplifies your unique code within a larger harmonic. You surrender distortion not your will.

The folks calling this show boring really need to look inward. This show is brilliant.

Finally someone who has a thoughtful, considered take on this show! I am really loving Pluribus and most people just cannot grapple with the nuances. Carol represents America: the individual at all costs, even to the extent of denying that she even needs other people to survive. In contrast to the other (international) people who have their own reactions, hers is uniquely American (and they reject her, unsurprisingly). For instance, in an early episode Carol rejects the Hive’s offer of a meal and demands they open up her favourite grocery store. Why is that different Carol? You’re still dependent on others! Her arc is fascinating to me. So is the Hive. The whole show is brilliant. Thanks for articulating “unity without individuation” - that’s has given me something to think about.

A cornerstone of white supremacist beliefs center on the idea that peace is only achieved if we are all *exactly* the same. It’s “us vs. them” and “good vs. evil” until they eliminate the perceived threat of the “other”. To coexist in peace means having a higher capacity to communicate, negotiate, resolve conflict nonviolently, and above all, to have the capacity to *comprehend*. In an anti-intellectual world, it’s hard to conceive that peace can be achieved without collapsing into hive mind or sameness.

I’ll watch this. I think the fate of this country was solidified when “e pluribus unum” was replaced with “In God we trust” on our currency. I say this as a Christian myself… to put God’s name on MONEY feels sacreligious and evil.

The body is evidence that you do not have to give up individuality for unity. The body is a collection of hyper-specialized cells.

sameness is not unity. diversity is needed for true unity, if we were all the same then we’d be robots. true unity can be achieved and individuality can and must be celebrated to truly have unity. most people believe likemindedness unifies people, maybe it does, but i think open mindedness would is what brings creativity into the conversation. unity without creativity/individuality is like communism.

I feel like it’s presenting a false dichotomy: be one with the group but lose yourself. Does that necessarily follow? I don’t think so

I’m so glad you talked about Pluribus! I am very entertained by the show and its depiction of unity. I appreciate that you emphasized the fact that it’s not about good versus bad. I’ve seen a lot of interesting takes to say the least. Leave it to the internet to take such a complex world and oversimplify its analysis through the separation-dominant lens of today’s world.

Retired therapist here, love your take on the show. I feel like they are planting seeds for later episodes to show that all is not as it seems in the unity mind.

The season finale explores that. Culture is assimilated. They seem to “care” but they only want to assimilate. Once assimilated they stop true empathy and leave behind culture and identity i guess because it is too costly. Not efficient.

I don’t trust the hivemind bliss. If it can be transmitted to them as peace and love it can also be reconfigured as anarchy and violence, making it a very easy way for all of humanity to end itself. Would like to uncover who is set to benefit from this situation.

We love that show. I keep thinking that must be what it’s like to be the “oversoul”. Having simultaneous access to all aspects of self across a unified field. 😎

This makes me think of the work I did around mindfulness / awakening as compared to what it’s like to now be doing parts work. One has a subtle (or not so subtle) energy of escape. One has the much longer work of integration.
