Powwow is not a dance. A pow is where everybody gathers and they dance and sing. The dances themselves are called differently. The only ones that I know is jingle dancing show dancing, and I believe the men do fancy dancing I could be wrong, but yeah, of how I was where everybody gathers.

When my SIL kept introducing me as her brother's Indian princess girlfriend at my first Christmas gathering with his family, my husband lost his shit. My first time meeting some of his family members were them apologizing while telling me their names. Not good enough.

it is actually best to say Indigenous American. I grew up on the reservation, and as kids we said Native American, and they would say Indian amongst themselves but it wasn't something an outsider should ever use. now I try to say Indigenous American because I think that is the most respectful.

I’m a white woman married to an indigenous man. I can’t imagine behaving this way. They have the most beautiful culture and to make jokes and laugh is so disrespectful, I would have left too.
