I left the office that day at 5pm and as soon as I got home I went to my desk and continued working until 2am. I hadn’t changed out of my work clothes or even had the chance to take off my work badge. When my eyes became blurry I said it’s time to go to bed. As I was closing the blinds I began to look outside and I could see a family across the street. I asked God “Lord, is that a family sleeping on that bench?” I couldn’t really see. My eyes were soo tired. I even asked my dog Bitcoin if it looked as though there were children out there. Sure enough it was. I moved from my living room to my bed room to close the curtains and to see if I could get a better look. I couldn’t just leave them there without fully knowing if everything was ok. It was cold that night. Somewhere around the lower 50s. I asked myself, what kind of person would I be if I were to lay down in my warm bed knowing there was a family in need sleeping outside my apartment? I said to God “If this is a test I will not fail.” I told Bitcoin I would be back and I went downstairs fully dressed in my work clothes determined to know if they were indeed not ok. They were not. They didn’t have no where to go. They were #homeless I offered to get them a room at the hotel across the street. It the office was closed. I could’t just leave them there so I pointed to my loft on the top floor and offered them to come stay with my dog and I. They accepted. I didn’t want to know the Why, How, When or anything- I just needed to get the babies somewhere safe. When they came up to my loft I showed them where everything was and I went to bed. I worked the next day. They packed their things and left. Fast forward to Thanksgiving. I text the Mom and told her that I was leaving to go back to my home in Texas and told them that they could have the place all to themselves until I returned. I told her where I left the key, she accepted and they returned and stayed the entire time. They took care of my place as if it was their own. When I came back a week later, the left again. It was back to Bitcoin and I in this large loft apartment. I called them back and told them to come back and stay with me for a little while. After all it’s just my dog and me. Today it’s #Christmas and they’re still there. I decorated for the holiday with a Christmas tree and everything. The kids, I’m sure didn’t expect anything. I purchased a gingerbread house and we built it together the other day. The next morning they woke up to a tree full of gifts with their names on it. I’m here in Texas and their Mom FaceTimed me so that I could see them open their presents! The smile on their faces brought me to tears yall! I DID THAT-GOD DID THAT!!! These are some of the most intelligent, articulate, creative kids I’ve ever met. They deserve it. My boys told me not to get them anything and instead give Christmas to the kids that are staying in my apartment in Arizona and I did. Because I saw my own kids put the needs of others before their own, they got exactly what they wanted. This may not be much to you all but I’m saving the world 1 family at a time.
