too many people confuse protagonist with hero. sometimes, the protagonist is the villain

when you realize bad people , especially protagonists, can be written to be likeable 😱😱😱

He may be a bad guy but he’s still the protagonist of the movie which is why people like him. Same with walt

Or… maybe just maybe… some people like to resonate with the villain, especially when they’re well written.

Media literacy in America is so bad, writing a nuanced villain or antihero becomes a form of public harm.

The villain is the protagonist that’s why people don’t see him as a villain. Morality is gray.

another good example is Goodfellas. Henry Hill is explicitly a bad guy. Or Scarface, he's cartoonishly a bad guy but frat bros have posters of him up in their rooms.

Same thing happened with Fight Club. tyler durden was not the hero or someone to look up to.

maybe it's because the movie didn't show how his actions effected his victims

Apparently, it's a red flag to like this movie because so many people who do are the ones who worship Jordan. I love this movie, but I also don't see him as a good guy!

Humans inherently dont have a fixed moral compass the only difference we have is perspective for example if you see a video of a hungry lion struggling to find food and then he prayed on a Giselle most of us would cheer for the lion however if the tables where turned and we saw life from the Giselle perspective we would have sympathized with it so all in all our moral compass is tightly correlated with the perspective that we are given and in that context we got to see his upbringing how he was poor and how he fought through the problems he faced but we never once saw the side of the people he scammed

The problem isn’t that they wrote a good bad guy. It’s that they told the story from his perspective and made him presented like the protagonist of the story.
