As a dog owner who would happily go to jail over someone messing with my dog, the dad has every right to protect his child using any means necessary. That owner should have been the ones to be sued in this situation. Owners have an obligation to keep their animals under control and properly secure ESPECIALLY if the animal in question is aggressive.
